Software QA Engineer


Koombea is looking for a QA Engineer to join our QA team in Barranquilla or as a remote worker. Your main goal is to assess software quality and feature releases through manual testing. For new feature releases, you’ll be responsible for finding and reporting bugs, make suggestions and considerations, as well as ensuring that every phase and feature of the software solution is tested and that any potential issue is identified and fixed before the product goes live. 

As a Koombea QA Engineer, you’ll be responsible for test plan creation, maintenance, review and execution. You’ll also interact with product managers, architects, developers as well as technical writers all throughout the product lifecycle - from concept to implementation - and act as the voice of the customer to maintain quality of the product suite. 


  • Work closely with Project Managers and QA Leads to review Requirements/Specifications, estimate tasks, and size project releases.
  • Oversight for all test planning, documentation and execution of functional, systems, end to end, and regression tests to uncover defects and improve the overall quality of the software.
  • Generate QA reports that clearly communicate QA results, concerns and project status with an emphasis on project risk, including defect rates.
  • Interface with business and project teams to understand and resolve any quality issues that are discovered during any phase of the project life cycle.
  • Review Business Requirements for gaps, traceability and testability.
  • Review test results and create test reports to QA management and senior leadership.
  • Influence project team to follow the defined procedures within the quality system.
  • Support Project Manager to identify risks and to develop mitigation strategies.
  • Provide input to project management on risks or issues related to testing.
  • Help testing APIs and web services that bring feedback to front-end and back-end teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Language Skills

Excellent command of the English language is required for this position.

Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with testing strategy and quality throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle (At least two years of experience).
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Github to clone repositories, pull changes, approve PRs
    • PostgreSQL to verify data traceability (desirable).
    • Postman to test APIs 
    • Xcode to test iOS apps and Android Studio to test Android apps  (desirable).
    • App Distribution such as Fabric-Firebase  (desirable).
    • CMS’ such as Drupal, WordPress or any other.  (desirable).
    • Sketch to review
  • Basic HTML, CSS, Javascript.
  • Basic knowledge of HTTP Requests to test.
  • Tools to record testing evidence or create user manuals.
  • Tools to manage defects and times.
  • Waterfall and Agile.
  • Basic knowledge of  (desirable):
    • Jmeter to generate traffic and see performance responses.
    • Selenium to record and play test cases
    • Localytics and Google Analytics to analyze traffic.
    • OWASP
  • Desirable iSTQB
  • Automated is a plus
